Lesser horseshoe bat

Scientific name: Rhinolophus hipposideros
The lesser horshoe bat emits ultrasounds with the highest frequency out of all the bat species of Romania, more precisely around 108-144 kHz, a cry of a truly high frequency. A small-sized species, it usually likes hanging by the wings. During hibernation, it prefers underground shelters such as caves, abandoned mines or cellars during the summer, the colonies being formed especially in the attics of buildings. The lesser horshoe bat is extremely attached to the shelters it uses throughout the year. Thus, protecting these places is of major importanace for the species.
