Carpathian newt

Scientific name: Triturus montandoni
The Carpathian newt is an endemic species for our country. It is green in colour, with darker stripes for the head and body. The males of the species presents a low dorsal crest, as well as two lateral ridges. This species prefers wooded areas and spends little time in the water. The adults gather temporarily in puddles or lakes for reproduction during the spring, preferring warmer waters. The Carpathian newt hibernates on dryland, very rarely in the water. Although it prefers clear waters, it is not very pretentious in this this sense and can also be observed in polluted ones.
