Scientific name: Triturus vulgaris ampelensis
It
is an endemic species for the hill and mountain areas of
Transylvania. Just as the Northern crested newt, it prefers open
spaces, with meadows and swamps found in the vicinity of forests.
During the mating season, it is dependent upon the humid areas
located at maximum 1 km away from the habitats it occupies during the
terrestrial part of its life. This species can be found between 300
and 1200 m altitude.
