Leafless Iris

Scientific name: Iris aphylla ssp. hungarica 
A perennial plant, it has a stem 50-100 cm high, from which sword-shaped leaves sprout. It has 1 to 5 big violet flowers presenting white or orange hairs at the base of the inferior tepals. It grows isolatedly on dry grasslands or rocky patches, from the steppes to the inferior mountain floor. In order to prevent the species form disappearing, it is necessary that grasslands are kept for mowing only, and not for grazing.
