Carpathian lamprey

Scientific name: Eudontomyzon danfordi
It is a freshwater fish, easy to recognize by the cylindrical shape of the body, round mouth having hard corneous plates resembling a kind of blade-teeth, and by the lack of pair fins. It can reach 30 cm in length. It hides in muddy waters and goes out in order to attack other fish unto whose skin it hooks itself with the help of a round sucker-like mouth. Then, using its sharps blades within the mouth, it cuts the flesh and sucks the blood. Mating takes place between April and August. It populates mountain and submountain rivers.
