Danubian longbarbel gudgeon

Scientific name: Romanogobio uranoscopus
The Danubian longbarbel gudgeon is a small-sized fish (up to 13 cm) with a fusiform body, slightly compressed laterally. The head is relatively big compared to the size of the body, the mouth is small and subterminally a pair of long barbels can be found. At the base of the caudal fin, there is the peduncle having two whitish spots with a tendency of uniting. It feeds on sedentary organisms from the bottom of rivers, namely invertebrates found in various watercourses. Reproduction takes place in May-June. It usually inhabits only fast-flowing waters.
