Scientific name: Aquila
chrysaetos
It is a large daytime predator, measuring up to
1 m between the beak and tail, and having a wingspan of up to 2 m. It feeds on
small-size mammals (from mice, rabbits, foxes or hinds to small domestic
animals). The largest density of nesting pairs in Romania (16-17) and
approximately 15% of the national population can be found in the SPA Trascău Mountains. Here, the
habitats perfectly respond to the needs of the species.
