Danube clouded yellow

Scientific name: Colias myrmidone
The wingspan of the male is 5 cm, and that of the female is slightly smaller. The Danube clouded yellow has gained its name form the intense orange colour it bears. The external margin of its wings is black; in the case of females, the wings are decorated with yellow spots. It lives in meadows, especially pastures and bushy hayfields, on the southerly sides of valleys, but avoiding very dry places. This bird is tied to the presence of the species of its host plant of the genus Cystius or Chamaecyiisus, in which the female lays its eggs. These butterflies spend the winter in larvar stage, while their flying period lays between May – June and July – September.
