Eastern eggar

Scientific name: Eriogaster catax 
It can be recognized by the following characteristics: the wingspan varies between 14-17 mm and 30-35 mm, the body and the wings are brick-red in colour, with grey hues, and the borders of the anterior wings are violet. On the back of the wings there is one white spot, larger in males than in females. The body size is, nonetheless, smaller in males. The abdomen ends with a tuft of grey-white hairs. It is a noctural butterlfy which prefers glades and sessile and oak forest outskirts with termophilic characteristics, as well as bushes of hawthorne and loft. This species has an atypical flying period, namely in the months of October – November.
