Scientific name: Rhinolophus euryale
The medium-sized
species of the genus Rhinolophus can be identified with precision
only by use of clear photographs of its nasal membranes
or
by recording its specific ultrasounds. Contrary to the other species
of horseshoe bat, it doesn’t completely wrap itself in its wings,
respectively it can be more active even in wintertime (for instance,
it flies instead of hibernating). Usually it uses caves all
throughout the year, forming colonies of hundreds or, in rare cases,
thousands of individuals. It can be negatively affected by uninformed
speleological tourism during the more sensitive periods of winter and
summer, as well as by fragmentation of the habitat.
